Morning ... another day, another Hambrick to jail

Remember Troy Hambrick, who once thought he was the heir to Emmitt Smith at Dallas? Turns out he was more like the heir to Pablo Escobar. He's going to jail for selling crack.

The honeymoon in Miami is over -- somebody just called Bill Parcells a liar in that whole Jason Taylor saga.

I've never seen this before so I don't know quite what to make of it, but the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator felt the need to defend his team's failure to trade for Jets LB Jonathan Vilma, who went instead to New Orleans for a conditional fourrth-round pick. Actually, I think I do know what to make of it. The Lions remain a joke.

The Cubs are trying to sell the naming rights of Wrigley Field. What would a company get for buying those rights? The immediate hatred of Cubs fans. Sounds like a deal to me!

Astros closer Jose Valverde received a box at spring training, opened it and ... why would he need those?

MIssouri junior forward Leo Lyons, who puts the "i" in idiot, seems to think he's ready for the NBA. Never heard of Leo Lyons? There's a reason for that.

Ron Artest wants out of Sacramento pretty badly. Calling his head coach incompetent won't work, but it will cost him five whole thousand dollars.

How bad is it for the Los Angeles Clippers? The owner is no longer returning the head coach's calls. I love this stuff.

One month into Pat Knight's tenure at Texas Tech, and already the Red Raiders have suffered the two worst losses in program history. With more games left in the season!

Yushin Okami, next for Anderson Silva? Silva would beat Okami so fast, he'd have to run some arena stairs to get in a full workout for the day.

Apparently UFC president Dana White left behind quite a mess after UFC 82. The link has a handful of curse words. Tread carefully, gentle reader.

Morning ... Roethlisberger still a walking cliche

Ben Roethlisberger is about to get paid.

Which is good. This is how that idiot spends his free time.

This is why NFL teams need to avoid character risks on draft day. This guy was a bad dude in college, and now he is being (allegedly) a bad dude in Denver.

The economics of baseball have been in place for decades, but Prince Fielder believes those economics shouldn't apply to him. Shut up and take the money, junior.

The same goes for you, Cole Hamels, especially since you had the nerve to say that you "just want to see some generosity." Other than the 500 G's, you mean?

It's a valid point: Why do MLB teams have to beat up on college kids every spring?

Flip Murray for MVP of the NBA. OK, not really. But at least he's not haboring alleged murderers in his house. Yet.

Some excellent points on UFC 82.

And some more.

Morning ... Kevin Faulk just stares at his weed

After being found with four joints at a concert, Patriots running back Kevin Faulk passed a drug test. If he's not smoking it, what is he doing with it?

Brett Favre is shamelessly milking his retirement decision -- again -- but the drama that happened Thursday wasn't his fault. I don't think.

The first signed NFL free agent of 2008 has picked a team ... and he picked the wrong team.

I don't care if Micah Owings is a pitcher, and a good one at that. The Diamondbacks need to get his bat in the lineup.

Somebody had  to die for Jose Valentin to play baseball again.

This story makes it sound that Pacers forward Shawne Williams was harboring a fugitive -- an alleged murderer, at that.

Nobody liked the Mavericks' trade of Devin Harris-for-Jason Kidd more than Tony Parker. Bad news for Dallas: Parker plays for San Antonio. Maybe Parker was onto something; the Spurs won round one last night.

Hours after I reported on my blog that Rick Majerus had to apologize after being obscene to clock officials at Charlotte, he didn't speak with reporters after an SLU victory. Said he had the flu. Awww.

More evidence that mixed martial arts is going mainstream in a hurry: 24 hours after CBS signed up with an MMA outfit, the king of beers hooked up with the UFC.

The ugly, awful feud between the UFC and its heavyweight champion took another bad turn when the UFC won an injunction to keep Couture away from the rival IFL. Nice.

Rick Majerus is losing his mind

St. Louis coach Rick Majerus, who already has raised eyebrows this season by stating a pro-abortion pro-choice stance that conflicts with the Catholic leadership of his university, was quietly reprimanded this week after coming unhinged Saturday during an 81-64 loss at Charlotte.

According to people at the game, Majerus lost control of his emotions after a shot-clock issue went against his Billikens. Majerus approached the scorer's table, found the offending official and unleashed verbal obscenities. One source said Majerus made an obscene gesture as well.

Officials at Charlotte and the A-10 confirm that Majerus was rebuked by the league and has apologized to Charlotte.

Of course the real question is this: What would Ashley Judd think of Majerus now?
